A healthy mouth is the first and the most important step towards a healthy body. We all are aware of this fact but still we are very complacent towards it. Keeping a healthy mouth will ensure that our gums are healthy and we are away from many systematic diseases such as Heart Disease, Diabetes and Respiratory problems.
Gingivitis:
In Dental terminology, gum disease is popularly known as Gingivitis. Infect this is the mildest form of Periodontal Disease. The symptoms of Gingivitis are red and swollen gums also accompanied by bleeding. When you are suffering from this disease you will not experience any discomfort and can be easily treated. The main reason why people suffer from it is because of the inadequate and negligent oral hygiene. However the treatment is possible if handled on time by visiting a dentist and also following the proper oral hygiene at home.
Periodontitis:
It's been said that an injury is left untreated can turn into a serious problem and more severe injury. The same is true with Gingivitis. If this disease is left unattended or not treated at the right time, it will turn into a Periodontal Disease. As time passes by, plaque spreads more and more on teeth and starts to grow under the gum line. Plaque contains bacteria and these bacteria carry with them acid which irritates the gums. These acids or toxins starts a chronic inflammatory simulation where in the tissues and the bones that support the teeth starts to break down and eventually gets destroyed. The gum starts separating from the teeth which create gap between teeth and gums. These gaps get infected. The more we neglect this condition the more worst it gets. The gaps become deeper and eventually the gum tissue and the bone attached to the gums get destroyed.
Periodontal Disease comes in many forms and the most popular forms are mentioned below:
1. Aggressive Periodontitis: This sort of periodontal disease occurs even if you are otherwise healthy. A patient suffering from aggressive Periodontitis is likely to face - rapid attachment loss and bone destruction and familial aggregation.
2. Chronic Periodontitis: This is the most common form of Periodontal Disease. It results in inflammation among the tissues that support the teeth and bone loss. This form of gum disease occurs when you ignore your gingivitis problem. The other fact associated with Periodontitis is that it is commonly found in adults but can also occur at any age.
3. Periodontitis as a manifestation of systemic diseases: Do you know that at least 16 diseases are associated with Periodontitis? Shocking as it may sound but it is true. This generally begins at a very early age. The most common for Systematic Diseases are - Heart Disease, Respiratory Disease and Diabetes.
4. Necrotizing periodontal diseases: This is the inflammatory type of periodontal disease which is caused by the bacteria. The infection is caused by the death of the gingival tissues, periodontal ligament and alveolar bone.
That's the in-depth explanation of various types of gum diseases. The only way to avoid any treatment on your teeth is by following proper oral hygiene so that you don't end up losing your teeth.
